Trie-sur-Baïse. An unusual house – ladepeche.fr

This year, with health regulations and restricted family reunions, we would have thought that the spirit would be less festive and that Christmas decorations would be less present, but in Bonnefont, we can count on the couple Maïté and Valéry Gaton -Thomas to illuminate everything. Indeed, their house, covered with decorations as much on the outside as on the inside, can be seen from a great distance, especially at nightfall, when everything lights up. They maintain a tradition that is deeply rooted in them: a passion for all Christmas decorations, a collection that has been growing every year with their discoveries for 23 years.

This year they installed more than 85 artificial and non-artificial Christmas trees, green and white, including a white one that started their collection, hundreds of Santa Claus of all sizes and shapes, snowballs, lights, candles, stars and every imaginable Christmas decoration that invades the house, the garden and even, this year for the first time, the barn door, not a space that does not sparkle.

“The neighbors and friends, once the holidays were over, instead of getting rid of their decorations, began to bring them to us” explains Maïté, “so every year, from October we start to take out the boxes and to put everything in place to decorate the house in time for the end of year celebrations, just the living room takes us 4 days “. “Somehow it’s also a gesture for the environment, we do not throw anything and we recover!” adds Valéry.

The fame of this illuminated and unusual house has far exceeded the borders of our department and even of the Region since a report on the house of Maïté and Valéry appeared on Jean-Pierre Pernault’s television news on TF1 last week.

At the end of this complicated year for many of us, this crazy expression of the Christmas spirit warms our hearts and reminds us that life and traditions endure despite everything.
