Miami-Dade County has officially honored rap icon Trick Daddy with a street renaming, recognizing his important cultural impact on the region. The stretch of roadway now known as Maurice Trick Daddy Young Street was unveiled Sunday morning (october 12) by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne McGhee at the Gould’s Community Center in Southwest Miami-Dade.
The renaming is part of a broader initiative led by Commissioner Keon Hardemon to celebrate local hip-hop artists. In March 2024,Hardemon secured a 9-3 vote to rename 24 streets after songs from area artists, aiming to inject vibrancy and cultural recognition into Miami-Dade County. This builds on a previous effort that saw a portion of Northwest 69th Terrace in Liberty City designated “Trick Love the Kids Street.”
“We need to try something dramatic to really change the neighborhood,” Hardemon stated, emphasizing the importance of music within these communities. Commissioner Marleine Bastein echoed this sentiment, saying before the vote, “This item will bring more culture to Miami. We want a place that is always sizzling. That is vibrant and dynamic.”
The initiative follows reporting by Wsvn and the Miami Herald, highlighting the growing movement to acknowledge the contributions of local artists to Miami’s cultural landscape.
