Treasury receives 141,553 requests for incentive of $ 500

The Department of Finance reported today that, to this day, it has received 141,553 requests from self-employed workers for the incentive of $ 500.

The agency – through a press release – indicated that they have made 141,122 deposits of those requests for a total of $ 70.6 million of the $ 100 million assigned by the governor Wanda Vazquez for this incentive.

The announcement coincides that today hundreds of taxpayers began receiving an email to inform them of the incentive federal of about $ 1,200 for taxpayers due to the pandemic of the coronavirus, also know as COVID-19.

“The negotiation process is active and the federal Treasury has not issued a final decision. Therefore, to say that the plan was not approved or that the process is paralyzed is false. Talks with the United States Internal Revenue Service continue, “reads the press release.

“As soon as the federal Treasury approves the Plan, instructions will be issued so that the residents of Puerto Rico receive the benefit. Meanwhile, the Treasury is working on the conceptualization of phased distribution and on the technological infrastructure to implement it,” he continued.

For its part, the agency’s communication mentions that, so far, they have received 526,083 income tax returns. In turn, they have disbursed some $ 207 million in refunds for some 291,000 taxpayers.

The deadline for filing returns is scheduled for the next July 15.

It also reported that an additional 10,000 self-employed workers may also be eligible to receive the $ 500 incentive.

According to the agency, these people were not initially eligible because they had a Merchant Registration certificate expired for more than a year or had a username and password in SURI, they had a Sales and Use account but they did not have a registered location.

Other reasons were because they renewed their Merchant certificate after March 15, 2020.
