Travelers to Portugal must have a negative COVID-19 test

All passengers arriving in Portugal must board their planes with a negative coronavirus test if they want to enter the country as of Wednesday, when the second state of emergency of the year begins to try to contain a spike in infections, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The director of the Lisbon airport, Rui Alves, said that travelers will receive different bracelets according to the country of origin of their flight to facilitate identification. The new regulations predate the first cases of the omicron variant registered in the country.

Those who do not present a negative test will have to pay fines of between 300 and 800 euros (340 and 910 dollars). Airlines that transport passengers without evidence could pay fines of 20,000 euros ($ 22,600) per person, and in the event of a repeat offense, they could lose their license.

Those arriving by land from countries outside the European Union or those of high or medium risk in the EU must present PCR or antigen tests.
