Transportes contracts for 3.5 million euros the project to duplicate and integrate the R3 line of Rodalies in Mollet del Vallès

23-08-2024

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded a contract for the drafting of the construction project for the duplication and urban integration of the R3 Rodalies line as it passes through Mollet del Vallès for 3.5 million euros (VAT included). The project includes the construction of a new railway station in the centre of the town, the improvement of the permeability of the track and the deployment of green areas.

The aim of these works, carried out by Adif within the framework of the Plan Transformen Rodalies, is to increase the capacity and reliability of rail traffic, by duplicating and modernising the 3 km single track that runs through the municipality, and to create new spaces for citizens.

The project will be drawn up by the joint venture (UTE) made up of TRN Taryet and TYLin GPO. Once completed and approved, the works can be put out to tender.

The project is part of the plan promoted by the Ministry for the comprehensive transformation of the line between Montcada and Vic, with all sections already underway or under study. In this sense, the works on the Mollet del Vallès section are a continuation of the work on the section between La Garriga and Parets del Vallès, where the second track has already been built and work is now being done on the modernisation of the signalling, the adaptation of stations and the project for the new Parets del Vallès station.

New station and spaces for the city

The new Mollet del Vallès station will be built in the city centre, at the end of Rambla Nova, and will replace the current one in the south of the municipality, thus improving citizens’ access to the railway. With a representative design, the station will be located in the new square and urban area that will be generated under a viaduct (200 m) that will be built as a pedestrian walkway to link Rambla Nova and Rambla de la Unió, replacing the two current underpasses.

The project reinforces the integration and permeability of the railway in the city, generating new spaces: the site of the current station will be freed up for urban facilities and green areas, the tracks near Parc de la Plana will be covered and screens will be placed at the points determined by the acoustic study.

In addition, the level crossing will be removed, new overpasses and underpasses will be built to connect both sides of the tracks, the current underpasses will be renovated and the city crossing at Mollet-Sant Fost station will be adapted once the works to improve the station’s accessibility are completed.

This action contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9 (efficient and quality sustainable infrastructure), 7 (sustainability) and 11 (inclusive cities with access to sustainable transport).
