SC Freiburg will dance at three weddings again in the coming season. In order to be prepared for international competition, the sports club will certainly have to look around the transfer market. We give an overview of the most interesting rumors.

Update from June 28, 10 a.m.: Next to Wilfried Gnonto, the courted 18-year-old Italian storm talent, swap other names in the rumor mill that are associated with SC Freiburg. An interesting player is Jessy Deminguet. At 24, he is captain of French second division club SM Caen. In the summer he wants to take the next step in his career. The playmaker has announced his departure. However, SC Freiburg must fear competition in transfer poker. In addition to FC Augsburg, there are probably four Ligue 1 clubs lurking.

Possible departures from the sports club

Mark Flekken

Mark Flekken was largely responsible for the good performance of the Breisgau team in the past season. Now Ajax Amsterdam is said to have asked about the Dutchman and also FC Brentford from England. According to Dutch media, the 28-year-old is considered a serious option. The market value of the 1.94 meter goalkeeper is 5.5 million euros. However, it is questionable whether the sports club will give up its goalkeeper.

Demirovic is courted

Center forward Ermedin Demirovic was rarely able to convince in the past season. After a strong 15 scorer points in the previous season, only five more were added this year – two goals and three assists. Not satisfactory for the attacker as well as the sports club. The 24-year-old was also likely to be annoyed by the times he played. The contract runs until 2024, the market value is 7.5 million. So a sale would bring a lot of money into the coffers. Hertha BSC is very interested in signing the Bosnia-Herzegovina international.

Sallai increases market value

Roland Sallai, on the other hand, was able to completely convince in the season. The 25-year-old Hungarian still has a contract until 2025, and transfermarkt.de estimates his market value at ten million euros. This makes him one of the most expensive players in the Freiburg squad. The “pressing monster” can play almost any position in midfield and has even scored four goals and five assists this season. With his achievements, Sallai has certainly played his way onto the bills of some clubs. However, a departure is currently unlikely.

What happens to Vincenzo Grifo in summer? The 29-year-old Italian is SC Freiburg’s difference player. The offensive player has collected nine goals and eight assists this season – top value. Grifo’s contract runs until 2024, the market value of the top performer is twelve million. Despite difficult stations in Gladbach and Hoffenheim, Grifo is toying with a change. The 29-year-old really wants to play in his home country again. If an offer from a top Italian club comes in, Freiburg will have to deal with it. A departure from Grifo would certainly hurt a lot.

These players could strengthen SC Freiburg

Bamba Dieng

The 22-year-old Senegalese is under contract with the French first division club Olympique Marseille until 2024. A transfer fee that should not be neglected should therefore be due for the center forward. According to Transfermarkt.de, a club would have to put around eight million euros on the table. French media even speak of up to ten million. Dieng will not be cheap. The Freiburger’s record purchase is still Baptiste Santamaria, who also moved from France to Breisgau two years ago for ten million euros. So the parallels are clearly visible.

Dieng contributed seven goals and three assists in 25 games last season and has thus become a fixture in the offensive of the southern French. At just 1.78 meters tall, the Senegalese is not a typical target player. Dieng rather convinces with his pace and his dribbling skills. With the storm candidate Bamba Dieng, the Breisgauer have now taken the first concrete steps towards a commitment.

Sekou Mara

The sports club is watching the French U20 international Sékou Mara. The 19-year-old has scored six goals in 26 games for Girondins Bordeaux – including five goals in the last six games. The 1.84 meter tall attacker still has a contract until 2025 and a market value of three million euros. However, Bordeaux, who have been relegated from Ligue 1, are demanding up to ten million for the homegrown team. In addition to French first division clubs, Werder Bremen should also be interested.

Ayase Ueda

The 23-year-old Japanese plays for the Japanese first division club Kashima Antlers. The center forward scored ten goals in 16 league games. At 1.82 meters tall, the right foot is not a classic target striker, Ayase convinces much more with his speed. Since the 23-year-old has only played in Japan so far, it is questionable how quickly the transition to the Bundesliga will happen. The center forward still has a contract until February 2023 and is available for around 1.2 million euros. In addition to Freiburg, FC Basel is said to be interested in the Japanese international.

Leonardo Vonic

The young German-Croat has made a name for himself with his achievements. The attacker scored 16 goals and five assists in 18 games for the 1. FC Nürnberg U19s. Not only half of the Bundesliga is said to be interested in the talent, the two Portuguese clubs FC Porto and Benfica Lisbon also have their eye on the 18-year-old. The 1.82 meter tall attacker can not only be used in the center of the attack, but also on the outside.

He convinces with both feet, running strength and leader qualities. Because of his game, he is also compared to Thomas Müller. Vonic’s contract with the Franks runs until 2024. It will be exciting to see whether Freiburg can secure the services of the 18-year-old and thus prevail against well-known competition.

That Itakura

After the return of Matthias Ginter, the hole in central defense seems to be plugged, but Freiburg has apparently not yet finished planning the position. A possible change candidate should be the Japanese Ko Itakura. The 25-year-old is still in the service of FC Schalke 04. Still, since the Japanese is only on loan. The centre-back’s home club is English champions Manchester City. However, Itakura does not play a role in the plans of the “Skyblues” and is to be sold.

The contract of the Japanese runs until the summer of 2023. In the past season, the 25-year-old was one of the best players in the Schalke team. He shines with his leadership and can be used defensively in almost any position – even in defensive midfield. His positional play and passing accuracy are also among the strengths of the 25-year-old. At 1.86 meters tall, he is also strong in the air and dangerous in front of goal.

Ko Itakura will definitely leave FC Schalke 04. The miners’ purchase option has expired. The agreed sum of 5.5 million is simply too much for the climber. So now the race for the 25-year-old Japanese begins. His home club, Manchester City, is apparently demanding a sum of over six million.

I will Celar

Center forward wanted? A completely different type of player is the Slovenian Zan Celar. At the age of 23, the 1.86 meter tall national player has played his way into the notebooks of several clubs. In the Swiss Super League he has scored ten goals in 29 games for FC Lugano and collected three assists. In the summer of 2021, Zelar came to Ticino from AS Roma. He still has an ongoing contract there until 2025.

If the worst comes to the worst, Zan Celar would be available for a relatively low fee and could thus add Höler, Petersen, Jeong and Demirovic to the SC attack line-up. According to the Swiss media, however, Hamburger SV should also be interested in the Slovene. With the international business behind it, the sports club should have the better cards in poker.

Junior Dina Ebimbe

A good bit more expensive is Junior Dina Ebimbe. The 21-year-old plays for champions Paris St. Germain and has gone through all youth teams with the French. The midfielder has made ten brief appearances this season. The young Frenchman’s contract runs until the summer of 2023. The market value is given as five million euros. Due to the great competition in Paris midfield, the French would probably let Ebimbe go.

At 1.83 meters tall, the 21-year-old is a real powerhouse, but Ebimbe also has plenty of speed. Due to his dynamism, the French coach Christian Streich would certainly give more opportunities in midfield.

Alessandro Schöpf

Alessandro Schöpf is not only a true all-rounder in midfield, but is also available on a free transfer. The Austrian international, who trained at FC Bayern, has been relegated with Arminia Bielefeld. As a result, Schöpf is allowed to leave East Westphalia without a fee. Despite 31 appearances for Westphalia, the attacking midfielder – like before at Schalke – never really arrived.

In tranquil Freiburg, Schöpf, who at 28 is in the prime of footballing age, could really flourish again. At the sports club, he could also replace Janik Haberer, who moved to Union Berlin on a free transfer.

Martin Erlic

The new international Croatia player obviously plays a role in the thoughts of those responsible for SCF. The 24-year-old centre-back is currently in the employ of US Sassuolo. The Serie A club demands a proud fee of ten million euros, almost double the current market value (5.5 million). Should the two clubs come closer in terms of the financial volume of the transfer, a transfer from Martin Erlic to Freiburg would be quite conceivable.
