Train Derailment Disrupts Townsville-Mount Isa Rail Service

Train ⁣Derailment closes Key Queensland rail Line

WARRIGAL, QLD – A train derailment near Warrigal, Queensland, has closed the townsville to Mount Isa rail‌ line. The incident⁣ occurred at approximately 1pm on ‍Friday, impacting both ⁤freight ⁤and⁤ passenger services.

queensland Rail (QR) reported that one ⁤locomotive⁤ was on its side,with⁢ two others leaving the tracks but​ remaining upright.one⁣ wagon ‍also derailed but stayed upright. The train, operated by Qube Holdings, was transporting zinc and copper from mount Isa.

“Emergency ⁣services arrived‌ onsite soon after. ​Thankfully no injuries were reported,” said QR Head of Regional ⁣Scott Cornish.

State Emergency Service ⁤volunteers were deployed ⁢as a precaution against a potential fuel spill, but police confirmed no​ spill occurred.

Passenger services ‌scheduled for the weekend have been replaced by ⁣a bus service. “queensland Rail will work with ‌the third-party​ operator to confirm a recovery plan once inspections are completed,” Cornish ​added.

Qube holdings released a statement expressing relief that the train crew was ‌unharmed. “Recovery efforts are continuing at the site, and we are naturally working with⁣ relevant ⁢agencies to support‍ investigations into the cause of⁢ the incident,” a spokesperson said.

The rail line remains closed as assessments continue. The derailment occurred ⁢between Pentland and Torrens Creek.
