Train cancellations and timetable changes: construction work is hampering rail traffic | Regional

Hamburg – Test of patience for commuters and travelers!

Due to railway construction work in the Hanseatic city, numerous train cancellations and diversions can be expected until March 19th. From this Saturday onwards, long-distance, regional and S-Bahn traffic will be affected. The Altona and Dammtor train stations will only be accessible by S-Bahn. Many trains cannot stop at the main train station either.

► In the direction of Berlin, the hourly ICE trains run from the main station, but the every two-hour IC trains to and from Berlin are cancelled.

Travelers from the direction of Bremen and Hanover sometimes have to get on and off in Harburg.

► Long-distance trains from Binz, Stralsund and Rostock only go to Bergedorf. This also applies to the so-called booster trains on the Hamburg – Büchen line (RE1). The regional express between Schwerin and Hamburg, on the other hand, runs as usual to the main station.

The long-distance trains to and from Westerland/Sylt are omitted except for a pair of trains to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, which stops in Hamburg-Harburg.

► Most regional trains (RE6) to and from Westerland start and end in Pinneberg. From there, passengers have to take the S-Bahn. The same applies to the Nordbahn lines RB61 and RB71 between Wrist/Itzehoe and Hamburg as well as the regional trains to and from Kiel/Flensburg (RE7 and RE70).

► The S-Bahn connection to Pinneberg will be strengthened during the construction work. Not only the S3 line goes to the district town, but also the S21, which otherwise ends in Hamburg-Elbgaustraße.

Deutsche Bahn bundles a number of construction measures during the Hamburg March holidays because fewer people are on the road during the two weeks. Between the main station and Dammtor, the railway is building cable ducts for the new railway bridges at Ferdinandstor.

Explosive ordnance probing is being carried out on Schanzenstrasse for the planned renewal of the Sternbrücke. Deutsche Bahn is also looking for explosive ordnance at the site of the new Altona long-distance and regional train station at Diebsteich.

In addition, work is to be carried out on overhead lines, signals and tracks between the main station and Langenfelde in the north-west of the Hanseatic city. (swim)
