Accident Deadly trafficking is frequent in Uttarakhand, which covers part of the Indian Himalayas and is home to many religious pilgrimage sites.

In early June, nearly two dozen people died when their bus crashed into the canyon. The fatal accident occurred while they were heading to a shrine dedicated to the Hindu god, Yamuna, north of Dehradun, the capital of the state of Uttarakhand.

According to a World Bank report released last year, India accounts for 11% of the number of road fatalities globally, despite having only 1% of the world’s vehicles.

The same report estimates 150,000 deaths from car crash in India every year, or one person every four minutes.

According to the report, road accidents damage the economy India about $ 75 billion annually, with medical bills and lost earnings pushing many accident survivors into poverty.
