Traffic violations: pay a penalty or a bailiff will come – Road and law – Car

If until now it was possible to pay penalties for road traffic violations during the annual roadworthiness test, then in the future all penalties, including violations of stopping or parking rules or violations recorded by technical means without stopping the vehicle, must be canceled within one month or 30 days. Otherwise, there will be dealings with bailiffs. As bailiffs do not work for free, the offender will also have to pay for their work. Here, however, it is important to remember that this payment can also be reduced by about half, if the violator of the rules will pay the fine and the bailiff’s expenses within 10 days.

Along with the changes in the procedure for paying penalties, drivers need to remember another important thing.

If so far out of a series of violations had to pay a penalty only for the “most expensive”, then now, if the driver has violated several things, such as driving a stranger’s car without OCTA and inspection, too fast and under the influence, and turned there , where this is not allowed, all violations will be counted together and will have to pay thousands of thousands.

To illustrate the innovations with an example, the potential costs if the penalty is not paid within 30 days are like in the palm of your hand. According to sworn bailiff Inta Kešāne, if the fine is 40 euros and it is paid within the specified term, then the amount does not change. If the penalty is paid within 10 days of receiving the notice of enforcement, it is 69 euros. If the 10-day payment deadline is also missed, then the bailiff must be reimbursed in full and the total cost to the driver reaches 80-90 euros. But there may be more. And if they are not paid, then the recovery of funds in accordance with the Civil Procedure Law begins with all means of forced recovery, which can even be recovery of funds at the expense of wages, funds in credit institutions, as well as movable and immovable property.

Finally, it is also important to make sure that the personal contact information in the electronic services, including e-CSDD and Latvija.lv, is indicated correctly, so that all notifications of unpaid fines and imminent sanctions reach the offender in time and not when additional expenses exceed the fine. So that the message is not sent to a mailbox that no one has been using for years.
