Traffic – Leipzig – Rail restrictions in March and April – Economy

Leipzig / Dresden (dpa) – Due to construction work, rail customers in the east must expect longer travel times from Monday (March 1). The routes Dresden-Riesa-Leipzig and Erfurt-Halle (Saale) / Leipzig are affected, as the railway announced on Friday. Trains are therefore diverted to other routes, so that longer travel times can occur.

From Monday to April 16, the Dresden-Leipzig route will be closed from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The reason is the expansion to the high-speed route. According to Deutsche Bahn, all-day closures of the route are planned from April 17 to 18 and April 21 to 23. The ICE connection between Frankfurt / Main and Dresden then ends in Leipzig. The IC connection Cologne-Hanover-Magdeburg-Dresden will be diverted between Riesa and Dresden. The travel time between Leipzig and Dresden is therefore around 30 minutes longer.

The RE50 regional train line is also affected by the construction work: its trains will be diverted between Riesa and Dresden-Neustadt – for passengers that means 8 to 16 minutes longer travel times. A replacement bus runs between Riesa and Großenhain Cottbuser Bahnhof.

Due to bridge construction work, there are further restrictions on the Erfurt-Halle / Leipzig high-speed line, which, according to the railway, should apply from March 8 to 22. ICE sprinters between Berlin and Frankfurt will then be diverted without stopping, the stops in Halle and Erfurt will be omitted. The ICE line Berlin-Leipzig-Erfurt-Frankfurt-Munich is canceled between Leipzig and Frankfurt.
