Traffic jams at Christmas: Thursday (22/12) + Friday (23/12) crowded on these routes | life and knowledge

December 24 this year falls on a Saturday, always unfavorable, because the Christmas journey to loved ones is reduced to a few days. Therefore, the ADAC is currently warning of impending avalanches.

According to the traffic authority, the roads will reach their load limits mainly in the afternoon hours of Thursday (December 22) and throughout Friday (December 23). On both days, the journey encounters commuter traffic and holidays in some federal states start in the middle of the week.

Relaxation beckons on Christmas Eve (December 24) – at least in terms of traffic: according to the ADAC, it should be quiet overall on the main roads. This also applies to Christmas Day (December 25).

Attention: from Monday afternoon (December 26), according to the ADAC, slow traffic is once again under threat. After all, many Christmas vacationers return home after visiting relatives and families. However, the traffic volume shouldn’t be as strong as it was at the start of the Christmas weekend.

The snow holiday traffic in the direction of the Alpine countries is expected to be slightly lower overall this winter season than in pre-Corona times. Ski holidays are considerably more expensive than in previous years and due to the general energy crisis, several ski areas have increased their prices.

Risk of stoppage on these routes:

Large areas of Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich
A 1 Cologne – Dortmund – Bremen – Hamburg • A 2 Dortmund – Hanover – Braunschweig – Berlin • A 3 Cologne – Frankfurt – Nuremberg – Passau • A 4 Triangle of Kirchheim – Erfurt – Dresden • A 5 Hattenbacher Dreieck – Karlsruhe • A 6 Heilbronn – Nuremberg • A 7 Hamburg – Hannover and Würzburg – Füssen/Reutte • An 8 Karlsruhe – Stuttgart – Munich – Salzburg • A 9 Munich – Nuremberg – Berlin • A 10 berlin ring • A 24 Hamburg – Berlin • UN 61 Mönchengladbach – Koblenz – Ludwigshafen • UN 81 Stuttgart – Singing • UN 93 Inn Valley Triangle – Kufstein • A95/B2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen • UN 99 Go around Munich

According to ADAC, car trips abroad are easier this year than in previous years, but also much more expensive. Therefore, many are likely to opt for a vacation in their home country.

However, typical winter routes remain potential traffic jams this year.

▶︎ This includes in Austria the Tauern, Inn Valley and Brenner motorways, the Fernpass line and the federal roads of Tyrol, Salzburg and Vorarlberg.

▶︎ In Swiss longer waiting times on the Gotthard line, on the access roads to the ski areas of Graubünden, the Bernese Oberland, Valais and Central Switzerland as well as at the car loading stations Furka, Lötschberg and Vereina.

▶︎In Italy In addition to the Brennero route, the roads most at risk are the Val Pusteria, Gardena, Badia and the Val Venosta.
