For the coming weekend (June 25th to 27th) Berlin, Brandenburg and Hamburg will also start their summer vacation. The Auto Club Europa (ACE) and ADAC estimate that traffic jams come back to the motorways along with the holidaymakers.

It gets crowded especially in the north of the republic, on the coastal routes and towards the south. The car clubs face the greatest risk of congestion on Friday afternoon, morning and early afternoon on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

From Friday lunchtime until late in the evening, travelers join work and commute traffic. This slows the flow especially around the metropolitan areas and on the arterial roads.

On Saturday it gets full from noon to the afternoon, especially around Berlin and Hamburg, the ACE estimates. The routes to the south and popular holiday areas are also focal points for traffic jams.

A fabulous almost 830 sections with construction sites

Construction sites also inhibit the flow of traffic. The ADAC currently has almost 830 sections that are being worked on. The return routes fill up on Sunday afternoon. Day trippers fill the typical routes to and from the local recreation areas and the coasts on Saturday and Sunday.

For journeys within Germany, the ACE recommends informing yourself about the different regulations of the respective federal states before departure. This also applies to travel restrictions and quarantine rules when traveling abroad. Information on this is available from the Foreign Office, among others.

Around Hamburg, Berlin and Munich, on the routes to and from the German coasts and on the following routes in both directions, the ACE and ADAC expect delays and traffic jams.

It can get crowded on these routes

In addition to the greater Berlin and Rhine-Ruhr areas, traffic jams are particularly likely on the highways to and from the North and Baltic Seas. Also on the following motorway sections in both directions:

  • A1 Cologne – Dortmund – Bremen – Lübeck
  • A2 Dortmund – Hanover – Berlin
  • A3 Frankfurt / Main – Nuremberg – Passau
  • A5 Frankfurt / Main – Nuremberg – Passau
  • A6 Mannheim – Heilbronn – Nuremberg
  • A7 Hamburg – Flensburg and Würzburg – Ulm – Füssen / Reutte

Prepare for controls at borders

Even to Austria or Switzerland, only a few should come completely free of traffic jams. Long traffic jams are rare, according to the ACE. The ADAC counts the Tauern, Fernpass, Brenner, Karawanken and Gotthard routes among the heavily traveled routes.

According to the car clubs, checks at the borders are to be expected. In addition to the ACE, the ADAC also provides information on travel requirements within and outside of Germany on its website. (dpa / af)
