Trading Sunday on December 6 is a bad idea – chairman of NSZZ “Solidarność”

– In the next amendment to the anti-crisis shield act, it is proposed that Sunday, December 6, be a trading day. That’s bad idea. Employees will have to come to work on that day and risk their health and even life – said the chairman of NSZZ “Solidarność” Piotr Duda on Thursday.

On Wednesday, on the website of the Government Legislation Center, a draft amendment to the law on special solutions related to the prevention, counteraction and combating of COVID-19 was published, according to which Sunday, December 6 this year, is to be commercial.

The chairman of Solidarity, Piotr Duda, criticized this idea on Thursday during a press conference.

– In the next amendment to the anti-crisis shield act, it is proposed that Sunday, December 6, be a trading day. This is a very bad idea, and we took it indignantly. Employees will have to come to work on that day and put their health and even life at risk. According to the justification included in this bill, the government did not actually write anything new, only that it is supposed to defuse the pre-Christmas traffic and help business. There is nothing there about the safety of people working in shopping centers – said the boss of “S” Piotr Duda.

He believes that this will not reduce the volume of traffic in shopping malls.

– We are appalled. We know perfectly well what Mikołajki looks like in shopping malls, how many people will be walking around, spreading the coronavirus, and infecting each other. For me it is an irresponsible situation on the part of the rulers – he said.

He also said that “two trade unions – OPZZ and the Trade Union Forum” put their hand in this. “For me, the situation is unacceptable, where unions, instead of caring for and defending employees, caring for their safety, go hand in hand with business and employers” – he said.

According to him, shopping can be done on other days, the more so that the next two Sundays on December 13 and 20 will be trading. He stressed that “Solidarity” will always stand by the workers. – We appeal to the rulers to come to their senses – added Piotr Duda.

In his opinion, the hotel industry needs help now.
