Tractor at full speed on E39 closed after rolling down a steep slope

Just after 11 o’clock E39 was closed between Førde and Jølster in Sunnfjord after a tractor was at full speed in the direction of the busy road.

The road was closed at just after 2 p.m. due to the recovery of the tractor.

– The tractor rolled 100-150 meters down a steep slope before stopping on a precipice, and he is still lying there, says police chief Roar Bøe.

For a long time there was a danger that the seven-tonne tractor would slide completely down the E39. The police therefore had to close the road.

– This could have gone really wrong if it had fallen onto the road and hit someone, says head of operations in the West police district Frode Kolltveit.

There was no driver in the modern plow tractor when it rolled down the slope.

No injuries have been reported.

Just before 1 p.m., the tractor was strapped to a tree, and the road opened for manual steering.

But the recovery of the tractor may lead to the road being closed again.

– It is steep here and there is little to secure, so it looks like it will be a demanding rescue, says the team leader.
