Toyota Philippines Recall Innova to Fortuner, What’s the Problem?

Jakarta

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced the recall of the alias recall against some of the cars sold in the country. The problem is the same as the recall in Indonesia, namely a problem fuel pump or fuel pump.

A number of Toyota cars in the Philippines recalled were in production from 2013 to 2019. That includes Toyota Innova and Toyota fortuner.

The vehicles included in the fuel pump recall are:

– Toyota Alphard – produced September 4, 2017 to December 11, 2018
– Toyota Corolla Altis – produced December 25, 2017 to December 26, 2018
– Toyota FJ Cruiser – produced September 2, 2013 to June 3, 2015
– Toyota Fortuner – produced 28 November 2017 to 19 September 2018
– Toyota Innova – produced January 1, 2017 to May 10, 2019
– Toyota Land Cruiser Prado – produced September 6, 2013 to March 2, 2015.

To date, a faulty fuel pump has affected more than two million Toyota vehicles globally. That also includes Toyota cars sold in Indonesia.

In Indonesia, 36,841 Toyota cars were recalled due to fuel pumps. Toyota cars affected by the fuel pump recall in Indonesia are Alphard with a production year 2017-2018, Corolla production 2018, FJ Cruiser production 2013-2014, and Kijang Innova, Fortuner, and Hilux production 2017-2019.

However, it was stated that not all of the vehicles were involved. What needs to be repaired is only certain VIN (vehicle identification numbers). For this reason, owners of these cars are advised to check it immediately.

The problem with the recalled Toyota car is that there is a potential mechanism of the fuel pump rotor blades that can change shape over time. This can cause the fuel pump to become inoperable, resulting in the engine being rough / unable to turn (stop) at low speed. And in rare situations the engine can shut down while driving at high speed, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.

When the problem occurs, it is possible that the engine lights on the dashboard will come on. Other potential, the engine speed can be rough, the engine cannot be started and / or the vehicle breaks down while being driven.

The fuel pump problem in Toyota cars is similar to the recall of the Mitsubishi Xpander, Nissan Livina, and several Honda cars. However, Anton cannot confirm whether the Toyota cars use the same fuel pump component suppliers as the other Japanese cars that were recalled.
