Toyen, Kupka and Gott will be auctioned over the weekend

The most important item is oil on canvas by the painter Marie Čermínová alias Toyen (19021980) Serenade (pictured), the starting price of which is 10 million crowns. The author created the work in 1924 and 1925 during her so-called naive period. Works from this creative stage of Toyen appear on the market very rarely. The painting, which comes from a private collection, was last presented to the public at an exhibition in Paris in 1926.

Another auctioned work by Toyen will be the surrealist Sleep Breathing Oil from 1958, which is inspired by fantastic events in the subconscious. It starts at a price of 8 million crowns.

An interesting item in the catalog is watercolor, ink on Untitled paper from 1932 with a starting price of 1,250 million crowns. The drawing with an erotic motif comes from the collection of the Parisian collector Jean Paul Kahn. The author originally created it for the magazine Erotická revue, in which it was also published.

Other significant parts of the auction are paintings by František Kupka On the Shore of the Marne (starting price 3.8 million crowns), Jan Preisler Lovers in the Forest (2 million) and Josef Šíma Krajina (1.4 million crowns).

The auction of the Kodl Gallery in Prague’s Žofín will take place on Sunday, November 28, without the presence of spectators. The most valuable item in the catalog is a set of 106 illustrations by František Kupka (1871–1957) Man and the Earth. It will start at a starting price of 25 million crowns. These are preparatory drawings created for illustrations of the encyclopedia Man and the Earth.

The paintings by František Foltýn Composition (5 mil.), Václav Špála Na Vltavě (2.5 mil.), Otakar Nejedlý Motif from Ceylon (1.8 mil.) And three works by Emil Filla – The Head of an Old Man (8 mil.) Will also be auctioned. .), Still life with fish and lemon (1.8 million) and Wrestling (2 million).

The auction catalog also includes paintings by the singer Karel Gott (1939 –2019) Lying Nude with Prague (700 thousand crowns), Hooray for Nature (350 thousand crowns) and Lady Carneval (for the same price).
