ROCK – A power trio composed of a drummer, a bass player with choirs and a guitarist on vocals, all with an energy to take off the eardrums, you have to listen to that !! Although disgusted, I had missed their first part of Ultra Vomit at the Carrière de Nantes, but the 2-3 titles that I had discovered all the same made my mouth water. Let’s see what gives this new album, will it live up to the good impression on stage?

With MODERN LOVE, the trio’s second album led by Lou (guitar, vocals) and Madeleine (bass) with Greg on drums, TOYBLOÏD intends to project blood and sweaty glitter onto the walls. After a first album in 2016 and a pair of EPs, this new album will move the widows and the teuchs, because yeah, it’s love.
With “VIOLENCE”, the album begins directly in the heart of the matter, Lou’s raging voice sets the tone, supported by a bass line that grooves, the drums and the guitar ensure the rock and punchy side. The group assures its position in the grunge rock that works.
There are several singles played on stage or accompanied by clips, such as “RCK N RLL”. Everything is in the title, Lou invites us to move with her with “Do You Wanna Wanna Rock N Roll”. The titles are linked and you never get bored. Always full of spirit and rage, Toybloïb accompanies us in his universe, made of glitter, beer, sweat, a sweet mixture of rage and femininity, a bit like putting Nirvana and Mademoiselle K on the same stage.

The texts are engaged, not always easy to interpret during a first listen, they address the themes that are dear to the group, such as the LGBT community, love, childhood, society … The clips help to appropriating the universe of the group, LGBT (“SUNRISE”), trash (“MONSTER”), with humor and self-mockery (“BEAUTY & THEBEAST”), all this with sensitivity and panache.
Clearly the discovery of this beginning of the year for me is an album to listen to and re-listen to as a matter of urgency, keenly resuming the lives to see them on stage!
