Town Hall in Almere Temporarily Evacuated due to Suspicious Package

The town hall in Almere was temporarily evacuated on Thursday due to a suspicious package. Stadhuisplein was also cordoned off. The employees were allowed back inside around 1 p.m.

The police report that a package was indeed found, but that there was no question of an explosive. It is not clear what exactly was in the package. The package is taken away for further investigation.

The town hall was hermetically sealed off before noon and ribbons were hung everywhere. Several emergency services arrived on the scene. The fire brigade and an ambulance were also present as a precaution. An explosives scout also arrived. This usually determines whether the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service should visit.

People from the town hall were accommodated in the adjacent De Voetnoot building. More than 1,000 people work in the city hall every day. It is not known how many people were actually present in the building at the time of the report.
