Towards digital economic integration

The results of the recent participation of the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare in the 11th Meeting of COMESA Ministers responsible for Gender Equality and Women’s Affairs, held virtually are known . The theme chosen for the ministerial meeting was “COMESA – Towards digital economic integration”.

The main objectives of the Ministerial Meeting were to review the progress made in the implementation of the decisions of the Council, as well as programs / projects on gender equality and women’s affairs, and to endorse the following recommendations. of the Technical Committee:

a) Report on the implementation of the decisions of the Council;

b) the 50 Million African Women Speaking Project which was launched in Mauritius on February 11, 2021;

(c) projects implemented by the COMESA Secretariat, one of which concerns the Regional Program for Business Competitiveness and Market Access (RECAMP);

(d) the names of the focal points for gender equality who would be called upon to assist the consultant in a survey aimed at profiling women and young SMEs in the selected value chains of RECAMP;

(e) the COMESA Medium Term Strategic Plan (PSMT 2021-2025); and

(f) strengthening the functions of the COMESA Federation of National Associations of Women in Business, formerly the Federation of National Associations of Women in Common Market Affairs of Eastern and Southern Africa.
