Dublin

The case of tourists being charged a price does not only happen in Indonesia. In Ireland, there are tourists who charge a price car rental, nine days spent Rp 796 million. Crazy!

A tourist who asked not to be identified complained on social media. He was about to rent a car during his holiday in Ireland.

However, when he saw the rental price, he was beyond shocked. To rent a car for nine days, he has to pay a total of 51,000 euros or around Rp. 796 million if converted into rupiah.

Of course that much money is not the price car rental reasonable. With that much money, the tourist can buy a new car, instead of renting it from a car rental place.

The tourist’s brother-in-law, John McCartin, was furious with the car rental. McCartin considers the price car rental which is fantastic it is a disgrace to the country of Ireland.

“He came to Ireland and decided he would rent a car to take him and his family around. He was told to pay 51,350 euros, for the rent for 9 days,” McCartin said, as quoted from Ocean FM, Friday (1/7/2022).

“You can buy the same car for 45,000 euros. We know there are stock and demand issues, there is a car shortage at the moment, but this company has a policy of making renters pay the maximum they can get from someone desperate to use a car.” he said.

Price car rental it’s even more expensive than renting a helicopter around Ireland. The price of a helicopter rental itself is around 3,500 euros for a distance of 200 kilometers.

The same incident also happened to tourists from America who were billed 10,000 euros for a car rental for 3 weeks. Other tourists also complained of being charged 18,000 euros for a week’s rental car.

Paul Redmond admits there is an issue with the car supply at the rental company. But he judged, this situation will gradually improve.

“Global car production has slowed during the pandemic. So now there’s a build-up in demand for new cars. High demand and stock shortages are driving prices up,” said Redmond.
