Tourists are raging against “towel mafia” in Mallorca

A war is going on in hotels around Palma – about sun loungers.

Early in the mornings, the “towel mafia” sneaks out to seize the sunbeds, writes Dagbladet.

It makes Scandinavian tourists look red.

– I get pissed, says Allan Hjort to the newspaper.

It may be the snoop to go down to the pool or beach for those who like to take a sleeping morning on the holiday abroad. A common sight that can meet sun worshipers is that all sun loungers are already busy – or at least that they have already been packed. Colorful towels adorn the sun loungers, but the towels owners never show up.

Norwegian Dagbladet is in place on Mallorcawhere you have talked to several tourists about the phenomenon that you call the “towel mafia”, ie people who pax their place in the sun by putting their towels on sun loungers early in the morning. Then you can disappear for several hours and do something else, because you know that your sun site is secured.

Prohibition does not work

In several hotels, including the hotel Dagbladet, it is forbidden to pax sunbeds in that way. But the prohibition signs are set in vain.

– God no, people occupy the chairs anyway. It has happened that tourists have come back in the afternoons when they have been away for several hours, and then I have given away the sun loungers, and then they become angry, says lifeguard Zara Parvu to Dagbladet.

The towel mafia raises strong feelings in the holiday paradise. Danske Allan Hjort is on vacation with his daughter Anna and he is raging against the phenomenon.

– I’m getting pissed. That it must continue! I do not understand why you do this, they are not even here but are gone half the day, he tells Dagbladet.

Hotel’s action: Setting them up

Daughter Anna agrees.

– It is disrespectful to be part of the “towel mafia”, it’s so ridiculous, she says.

It is not only in Palma that the towel mafia ravages. At several hotels in Tenerife, the sunbeds have been started during the night to fine -tune its members. But not even that helps.

Then the towel mafia instead puts out their towels on the ground.
