A significant increase in coronavirus cases is observed in Greece on a weekly basis, Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias announced today, Sky TV reported, quoted by BTA.

An increase is observed in 64 out of a total of 74 regional units, and in 25 of them more than 100 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants have been registered.

The regional units of Mykonos, Rethymno and Heraklion, as well as the municipalities of Jos, Thira (Santorini) and Paros have been transferred to the “orange” zone for an increased risk of coronavirus infection.

On the island of Mykonos, the number of active cases has quadrupled in one week, from 77 to 318. On Jos, the increase is fivefold, on Santorini more than doubled, and on the island of Paros sevenfold.

In these places, the authorities plan to intensify population testing.

In addition to the regions that have been transferred to the “orange” zone, a number of areas are recategorized from the “green” to the “yellow” zone of increased risk.

In the last 24 hours, 2,794 new cases were registered in Greece, 6 died and 132 patients in the intensive care unit.
