Tourist accommodations hit hard, almost three quarters fewer guests | NOW

Tourist accommodations in the Netherlands received 72 percent fewer guests in the second quarter of this year. That appears on Tuesday Numbers of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The decrease was highest in hotels, at 76 percent, while accommodations such as camping sites received approximately 60 percent fewer guests compared to 2019.

Although there was a significant decline throughout the Netherlands, some provinces were hit harder than others. For example, the number of guests in Noord-Holland in the months of April, May and June is 82 percent lower than in the same period last year. In Frisian accommodations, the decrease was the least, at 53 percent.

In April, the tourism industry in the Netherlands was largely at a standstill due to the corona measures. As a result, accommodations such as hotels and camping grounds received 95 percent fewer guests than in the record year 2019. In May and June there was a slight recovery.
