Tourism Minister Reddy emphasizes government’s focus on sustainable adventure tourism and responsibility towards local communities.

Sustainable tourism has become a buzzword in recent times, with more and more people realizing the importance of responsible travel. In the wake of the ongoing pandemic, there has been a surge in demand for adventure tourism that is both safe and sustainable. In light of this, the government has been taking measures to promote sustainable adventure tourism that benefits both travelers and local communities. In this article, we discuss the government’s focus on sustainable adventure tourism, specifically in terms of being responsible towards local communities, as highlighted by Tourism Minister Reddy.

India is exploring the potential of adventure tourism with sustainability and local community livelihood in mind, according to Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy. Speaking at the second G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting, Reddy said that India’s topography offers a wide range of opportunities for both domestic and foreign tourists. With a 7,000km coastline, 70% of the Himalayas, over 700km of rivers, sand deserts and cold deserts in Ladakh, India is an ideal destination for sustainable adventure tourism. Reddy also stated that India is dedicated to developing sustainable tourism to take full advantage of its topography.

To create awareness among young people, India is building awareness clubs in universities to promote a sense of responsibility towards the country’s heritage. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, India’s G20 Coordinator, said that India has immense potential for adventure tourism due to its vast size and diverse landscape. The meeting was attended by over 130 participants, including G20 members, international organisations, state tourism officials and local tour operators.

India’s topography is perfect for adventure activities such as camping, paragliding, hot air ballooning, river cruising, sailing, snorkeling and wildlife safari, making it an attractive destination for tourists around the world. However, India is also prioritizing the sustainable development of tourism, ensuring that local communities can benefit from tourism without compromising their livelihoods.

Reddy’s commitment to sustainable tourism is in line with India’s approach to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a collection of global goals set by the United Nations General Assembly to achieve a more sustainable future for all. India has been a strong advocate for sustainable tourism, recognizing its potential as a tool for economic growth and development while also prioritizing environmental protection.

Through sustainable tourism, India can further continue to develop its tourism industry while also preserving its natural and cultural heritage. By promoting environmentally-friendly tourism practices and investing in sustainable infrastructure and community development, India can ensure that tourism benefits local communities without compromising the environment or the quality of life of local people.

In conclusion, India’s focus on sustainable adventure tourism reflects its dedication to achieving the United Nations SDGs. Reddy’s comments reflect India’s commitment to developing tourism that benefits both tourists and local communities while preserving the country’s natural and cultural heritage. Through sustainable tourism practices, India can continue to grow its tourism industry while also promoting economic growth and environmental protection.
