Tour of Francia The Olympic Games and the Euro Cup have encouraged the decision
The departure of the Tour de France from Copenhagen scheduled for 2021 will be delayed by one year. As reported on Monday by Grand Dpart Copenhagen Denmark, the company in charge of organizing the Danish part of the race.
The coronavirus has caused the postponement of the Olympic games by 2021, and this in turn forces the start of the French round to be brought forward by a week so as not to coincide with the cycling tests in Tokyo. Copenhagen is one of the headquarters of the Eurocup, which has also been postponed to the next year, so they don’t want bikes and balls to match.
Copenhagen Mayor Frank Jensen was pleased to have reached an agreement with Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), organizer of the Tour and other international races. The politician is confident in the suitability of the new date and its occurrence in a world that has already overcome the pandemic.
Organizers on the Danish side do not expect the postponement to mean changes to the three stages planned in Denmark: a time trial in Copenhagen and two road stages, Roskilde-Nyborg and Vejle-Snderborg.
Denmark will be the tenth country to host the start of the Tour, which has already started in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Monaco.
