Tour de France 2022: Peter Sagan today – statement after the first stage

Belgian cyclist Yves Lampaert won the opening stage of the 109th Tour de France and was the first to wear the famous yellow jersey this year. The rider of the QuickStep Alpha Vinyl stable managed the fastest wet time trial for 13.2 km in the streets of Copenhagen, when he crossed the finish line in 15:17 min. Slovakian Peter Sagan in the TotalEnergies jersey took 140th place with a loss of 1:32 minutes.

Sagan started on the track in the first half of the starting field, he had no ambitions to break into the best in the time trial, so he didn’t take too many risks on the slippery roads and arrived at the finish line with a minute and a half deficit. In the end, his performance was enough for 140th place.

“I’m not a time trial specialist, if it was the last day I might have taken a risk, but today I didn’t need to. The atmosphere finally equaled what it was before the corona. We’ll see how the stage turns out tomorrow. Especially with the weather, whether it will blow and whether it will come to a sprint at all, or in groups,” Sagan told RTVS.
