Toulouse. Study on stroke: the CHU offers 100 € to volunteers to undergo an MRI

Claustrophobic refrain! As part of a study on motor recovery following a stroke, the Toulouse University Hospital and the Inserm laboratory are launching a call for volunteers. Men and women aged 45 to 77, who have not had a stroke or other neurological history, can participate in the study.

Conducted by Professor Philippe Marque, of the Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of the CHU de Rangueil, in collaboration with the Inserm laboratory, the study aims to improve the management of patients who have suffered a stroke. In this context, the Toulouse hospital wishes to set up a control group of healthy volunteers in order to compare their brain activity with that of people who have had a stroke.

Dubbed “stroke”, a stroke is an obstruction, or rupture of a blood vessel in the brain. It can occur at any age in adults, and can affect motor functions but also, language, thinking, learning and communication skills and emotions. In France, it is estimated that a person suffers a stroke every 4 minutes, according to Inserm. It is the leading cause of disability acquired in adulthood.

A 2.5 hour medical visit

Participation in this scientific study involves a visit of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to the laboratory. Volunteers will have to undergo a medical examination and an MRI brain imaging examination. Claustrophobes are therefore prohibited …
