Toulon ensures against Castres

Thanks to a 100% Louis Carbonel against the poles and a try by Duncan Paia’aua, the Toulon team came off without trembling at the end of the game.

But the Castres, with a glaring lack of efficiency approaching the line, leveled off and showed a completely different face than in La Rochelle where, still very weakened by their cluster, they had suffered a heavy defeat (62 -3).

The return of thirteen players absent from Marcel-Deflandre after their contamination with Covid-19 was felt. Mauricio Reggiardo’s men were even the first to pass three points thanks to their Argentinian opener Benjamin Urdapilleta.

In a dull first period, chopped by the scrums, the Toulonnais subsequently tried to send the game, but their three-quarters did not manage to really destabilize a well-established Castres team.

Louis Carbonel still decisive

As often in this situation, the Var relied on the boot of their opener Louis Carbonel.

Only Toulonnais to really stand out from the game thanks to two precious defensive returns (24th and 25th) and a perfect kicking game, the 21-year-old kid spent two penalties allowing his family to turn ahead at the break (6-3) .

Everything accelerated in the second half, where Carbonel gave air to the Var. More confident, the three-quarters Red and Black were finally rewarded by the hour of play thanks to a test of more than 80 meters.

Full-back Gervais Cordin served winger Daniel Ikpefan who ultimately pitched center Duncan Paia’aua. Holder in every game since the start of the season, the Australian has signed his first try with the RCT.

The Castres found themselves several times five meters from the Var line without ever succeeding in finding the fault.

The Tarnais were still reassured after the disaster in La Rochelle and can now prepare more calmly for the insane schedule that awaits them (receptions from Racing 92, Bordeaux-Bègles, Clermont and trip to the Stade Toulousain).

For its part, the RCT will have to confirm next weekend in Bayonne by trying to win its first points away this season.
