Tottenham Vs Rennes Not Rescheduled, Spurs Threatened To Get Out

Jakarta

Laga Europa Conference League Among Tottenham Hotspur vs Rennes will not be rescheduled. Now the care squad Antonio Conte threatened to be eliminated from the event.

The match was supposed to be held on Thursday (9/12) evening local time, but was postponed due to a storm COVID-19 that hit the Tottenham squad. Conte said there were at least 8 infected players, but the club has never confirmed the exact number.

Rennes initially did not accept the decision, especially since they had arrived in London. However UEFA finally decided to postpone the game.

Efforts were made to find a replacement date. According to the rules, the match must be finished before December 31, 2021. But on Saturday (11/12), Sky Sports report Tottenham, Rennes, and UEFA could not find a replacement date, due to a busy schedule until the end of the year.

“Unfortunately, a satisfactory solution for both clubs could not be found, despite every effort made,” read a UEFA statement.

“As a consequence, the match will no longer be playable, and this matter will be referred to the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body. A decision will be made in accordance with Annex J of the competition rules,” the statement said.

If referring to Appendix J, then Harry Kane et al will be declared 0-3 lose because they can not fulfill the obligation to play. The result will make the Spurs eliminated because they only finished third in Group G with 7 points, below Rennes (14 points) and Vitesse Arnhem (10 points).

Even so, there is no statement yet UEFA which states Tottenham lost. BBC report a decision will be taken next week. Spurs also do not want to comment on this.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body could reportedly take further action on this matter. Spurs will be checked whether they still have 13 players plus one goalkeeper available when requesting a postponement.

In fact, if that number is met, they are required to play. In addition, the judging panel will also look at the efforts of the two clubs to rearrange the match schedule.
