Torrelavega will celebrate the IV Book Fair from June 24 to 27 with 20 booths

This was reported this Monday at a press conference by the Councilor for Culture, Esther Vélez, together with the coordinator of the fair, Carlos Alcorta.

As indicated by the mayor, the fair will take place in four “intense, interesting and attractive” days and with “very diverse” activities, and the opening will take place on June 24 at 12 noon.

Specifically, the booksellers and publishers of the 20 booths come from Torrelavega, Santander, Cabezón de la Sal, Castro Urdiales, Maliaño, Renedo de Piélagos, Unquera, Reinosa and Gajano.

One of the novelties of this edition is that it will be possible to enter the interior of the booths, which will be installed in a fenced enclosure, with capacity control and will comply with all the health safety and hygiene measures provided for the control of the Covid pandemic. .

Among the activities scheduled for this edition, the presentations of books by national authors stand out, such as the novelist and columnist of La Vanguardia, Ignacio Martínez de Pisón (Zaragoza, 1960), who, in conversation with the also novelist and columnist of El Diario Montañés, Javier Menéndez Llamazares, will present his latest novel ‘Out of season’.

Also present will be the essayist and poet Alberto Santamaría, who will present the essay ‘Politics of the Sensible’, or the novelist Mariano Fernández Urresti with his recent book ‘The Red Bison Painter’, as well as the authors of the region: Jesús García, Jesús Herran or Aurora Miranda, among others.

In addition, during the fair, the winning books of the competitions organized by the Department of Culture will be presented: the ‘José Luis Hidalgo’ Poetry Prize, which this year went to the Basque poet Imanol Ulacia; the First Children’s Story Contest, whose winners have been David García Pérez, Montserrat Barrero and Mónica González Sastrias; and the City of Torrelavega Prize for Letters of Love, whose award went to Trinidad Pestaña Yáñez.

Regarding activities related to children’s literature, storytellers have been organized, as well as a round table that will be attended by Loreto Casado, from Ardora Ediciones, an editorial that won the National Award for Best Cultural Editorial Work in 2020.
