A top Russian scientist, Dmitriy Kolker, died two days after being arrested on charges of treason against the state. This quantum and laser specialist is suspected of spying for China.
Before being taken to prison, Kolker was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer at the hospital. Before completing his treatment, Federal Security Service (FSB) officers took the 54-year-old man from his hospital bed in Novosibirsk to prison on June 30.
Reported BBC, on June 30, a Novosibirsk court ordered that he be detained for two months. He was taken to Moscow’s Lefortovo prison and died later in a nearby hospital two days later.

Kolker is accompanied by FSB agents on all his trips to China, his son said. Officials confirmed that Kolker only spoke to Chinese students in Russian through an interpreter.
Kolker’s daughter, Alina Mironova, has condemned her arrest in a post on her VKontakte page.
“Stage four pancreatic cancer is the verdict,” he wrote.
“But facing such a verdict not at home, but within the walls of a detention center without proper medical care is the worst thing that can happen to a person.”
