Today is Thursday May 11 and these are the main news of the day:

1.- Some 6 Cuban women and 60 men were deported on the second plane that left Miami for Cuba. They had entered the United States illegally and some of them failed to demonstrate credible fear to obtain asylum in this country. One of the deported Cubans told Telemundo 51 by telephone that in the early hours of Wednesday morning the authorities asked them to pick up their belongings, because they were going to be deported.

2.- Governor Ron DeSantis signed the immigration law that seeks to prevent undocumented immigrants in Florida. It will enter into force on July 1 and the law establishes fines for those who hire illegal immigrants, makes the transportation of illegal immigrants a crime, obliges hospitals to collect immigration data, and in certain cases will require DNA collection.

3.- Police are looking for a driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in Hialeah and fled. That happened at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Okeechobee Road, and surveillance video caught it all. The pedestrian can be seen crossing the street when he is struck by a blue Honda Accord. This event happened on Sunday, April 30, and the victim was identified as 44-year-old Randall Lobo.

4. – Police arrested a man, accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl who came to Florida with her parents last year from Cuba. The man was known to the family and that must have happened during a meeting. In an interview with the Department of Children and Family, the little girl revealed that the man touched her private parts.

5.- The White House announced that as of this Friday, May 12, the restrictions on the entry by air of travelers to the United States, adopted for the prevention of COVID-19, are repealed. The Biden administration considers that being at a higher level of control of the pandemic, the restrictions on international air travel, imposed in 2021, are no longer necessary.
