In the film “Land that Sings”, the opera diva will play Zelma, the eldest sister of a wealthy Vidzeme owner, who plays an important role in the historical plot of the film – at the time of the first Latvian singing festival. Zelma and her goddaughter Anna, as the central characters of the film, embody the vision of the world of two generations – the middle and end of the 19th century Latvian women, their desire for culture, for full participation in the spiritual and economic life of the future Latvian nation.

After graduating from the Pärnu Girls’ Gymnasium in Vidzeme Province and acquiring the rights of a home teacher, Zelma served first as a governor, but later also as a farm manager in a rich manor near St. Petersburg. The sudden death of her brother forced her to return to Vidzeme and take care of both the family farm and her niece Anna. Zelma, who has no children, raises Anna as her daughter. His goddaughter is introduced not only to rural but also to urban life. In addition to fieldwork and homework, she teaches how to dress fashionably, how to stand for herself, makes expressive reading of books to develop speech talents, and encourages singing, despite the fact that at the 1873 Singing Festival in Riga there are only a few mixed choirs. with very few women.

Marina Rebecca admits that her role in the film will be a kind of baptism of fire: “It is interesting for myself how to deal with everything, because it is not easy to relax and be natural in front of the camera. The director and one of the screenwriters of the film, Maris Martinsons, says that he addressed the role of Marina Rebecca, knowing how much the Song Festival means to the world-famous opera singer.
