In the USA, Miami (29th place), Los Angeles (33rd) and Las Vegas (38th) are represented in the list alongside New York. Overall, tourism in US metropolises is suffering from competition from Asia.

Concerns about the looming trade war with China

However, the experts also fear that the looming trade war between the USA and China could have an impact on tourism in Asia in the future. The hopes of many US metropolises to attract Chinese tourists could be dashed, it is said.

All trips longer than 24 hours and not for professional reasons were taken into account in the analysis. The numbers for 2019 are a projection, the actual year-end statement could change the rankings again.

The ranking of Hurghada (Egypt) is also interesting. The tourist metropolis jumped from 82nd to 63rd place. This is attributed to the increased security measures following a series of terrorist attacks.

For Europe, the experts are finding waning interest in the favorite tourist cities such as Barcelona, Milan and Vienna. Instead, destinations in Croatia, Slovenia and Sweden attracted a lot of visitors. However, these travel destinations are often not enough for a place in the top 100.

The most popular German city is Berlin at number 41, followed by Munich (56) and Frankfurt (87). Hamburg and Cologne did not make it into the top 100.
