Top 10 Cheapest Cities to Park in Germany: A Comprehensive Study by German Environmental Aid and BILD

by Ethan Caldwell

Energy, food, fuel – many things have become more expensive in recent years. In many German cities also parking.

However, that is not enough for the German Environmental Aid. “German cities allow parked cars to block public space at cheap prices or even for free,” criticized the DUH in a press release.

A parking ticket must cost at least as much as a bus or train ticket per hour – in most cities that is around 3 euros.

To underline their claim, the Nature conservation organization conducted an extensive study on parking fees (costs per hour) in German cities.

Where is parking cheapest?

BILD has the figures for the 10 largest German cities. The big ranking!

1st place: Bremen. Parking in the Hanseatic city starts at 50 cents an hour and is by far the cheapest. Maximum: 3 euros.

2nd place: Hanover. In the capital of Lower Saxony, you pay at least 1 euro per hour. The most expensive ticket costs 2.60 euros.

3rd place: Leipzig. Here, too, at least 1 euro is due for an hour’s standing time. The highest fee is 3 euros.

4th place: Stuttgart. The Swabians start cheaply at 1.10 euros. However, you can also spend a lot of money here: the most expensive seats cost 4.60 euros.

5th place: Dresden. Parking in the eastern metropolis starts at 1.20 euros. A ticket costs up to 2.40/hour.

6th place: food. The cheapest Ruhrpott city when it comes to parking. Prices range from 1.20 to 2.80 euros.

7th place: Dortmund. The parking fees hardly vary here. In some places you can get away with 1.50 euros, others 2.50 euros per hour are due.

8th place: Hamburg. In the Hanseatic metropolis it is a bit more expensive: hourly ticket costs from 1.50 to 3.50 euros.

9th place: Munich and Nuremberg. In the southern major cities, the parking fees are the same. 2 euros each (lowest price) and 2.50 euros (highest price).

10th place: Berlin, Frankfurt and Cologne. The cheapest parking ticket here costs 2 euros per hour, with drivers paying a maximum of 4 euros.

By the way, city dwellers park most expensively in DĂĽsseldorf, paying at least 2 euros. The most expensive fee here is 4.50 euros per hour.
