Tönnies in Rheda-Wiedenbrück: Administrative employees can return to the factory

The huge Tönnies meat factory in Rheda-Wiedenbrück has been idle for three weeks because of a corona outbreak. The authorities are now allowing a first section to be reopened – albeit outside production. The city said that an exemption from the mayor would allow the administration to be gradually restarted.

The ban on entering the factory premises for employees in the administrative area is no longer in force since Wednesday. The employees who are now allowed to enter the company premises are named, it was said.

From when and how many administrative employees of Tonies will now go back to the huge plant at their workplace, initially no information was available from the company.

Implementation of the hygiene concept is checked

“In view of the relatively low risk of infection, the resumption of business administration is not delayed disproportionately,” said the city administration. It must be ensured that a spatial separation from other work areas can be maintained at all times. Compliance with the requirements is checked by the regulatory authority.

On this Thursday, the daycare center on the factory premises can reopen. It has external access and is not itself part of the group of companies, it said in the message.

Because of the Corona-The outbreak was the Tönnies slaughterhouse in Rheda-Wiedenbrück been discontinued on June 17. After that, further areas were shut down. The district administrator of the Gütersloh district, Sven-Georg Adenauer (CDU), had ordered the plant to be closed. The decision is valid until July 17.

The district administrator had recently shown himself skeptical whether the appointment should be held. By way of exception, individual sections could also start earlier. After examining Tönnies’ hygiene concept, the authorities want to give advice again on Thursday about the resumption of operations.
