Tomato virus continues to spread among Dutch growers

In the Westland, where the virus first appeared, infections have been detected in nine places. The virus has also been found in Hollands Kroon, Brielle, Reimerswaal, Haarlemmermeer, Midden-Delfland, Horst aan de Maas and at Goeree-Overflakkee. There is also a ‘serious suspicion’ of a contamination in a company.

In addition to tomatoes, the virus can also attack chilies and peppers. If there is a suspicion of contamination, this must be reported to the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. Emergency measures are in place to prevent the spread within the European Union.
