Fluence by OSRAM, a leading global provider of energy efficient LED lighting solutions for commercial food production, and Great Northern Hydroponics, a greenhouse in Ontario, Canada, which grows more than ten tomato varieties, announced that the collaboration between the companies on the LED implementation will save an estimated Canadian $ 150,000 in annual greenhouse operating costs.

The company works with Fluence by OSRAM, a leading global provider of energy-efficient LED lighting solutions for commercial food production.

The project also qualified for funding through the Save on Energy retrofit program of the IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator), which will significantly reduce the upfront costs for upgrading the lighting technology.

Great Northern Hydroponics’ 28 hectare facility produces 9 thousand tons of premium tomatoes annually. The hydroponic greenhouses use a sophisticated climate control system to create optimal growth conditions and a biologically controlled environment to prevent pest infestation. Fluence’s LED technology has been retrofitted to 4 hectares of the plant’s tomato greenhouse. At the head of the Great Northern Hydroponics grow operations are Guido van het Hof, President and CEO of the company, and Dean Bernardes, Vice President of Operations.
