PP and BSP are arguing over who should take the regional commission of the National Assembly

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Ecology Borislav Sandov is preparing an entirely conservation team for his political cabinet. He has already made his proposals for deputy ministers to Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, 24 Chasa has learned.

Sandov’s team will include the former head of Vitosha Nature Park and the Parks Association Toma Belev and the chairman of the Balkanka NGO Dimitar Kumanov.

Belev is known as one of the longest-serving conservationists in Bulgaria. He was the head of Vitosha Nature Park for 13 years. In 2012, he was fired after a conflict with an investor in the mountain’s ski area. Belev is currently a municipal councilor from the DB in Sofia.

Dimitar Kumanov is the founder and activist of the non-governmental organization “Balkanka” and an outspoken supporter of the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the rivers.

However, the appointment of the two environmentalists, as well as the other deputy ministers in the government, has been delayed due to their inspections by the National Revenue Agency and the State Agency for National Security. According to the coalition agreement, each candidate for the post must be screened before appointment, although each minister is free to nominate people from his party quota.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister released the Deputy Ministers of Agriculture, remaining in the caretaker cabinet, Yavor Gechev, Krum Nedelkov and Georgi Sabev.

The bargain between “We continue the change”, BSP, “There is such a people” and “Democratic Bulgaria” for the chief positions in the parliamentary committees continues. Until late last night, there was no understanding, despite plans for the committees to be voted on by parliament this week.

From “We continue the change” take key commissions such as legal, economic, foreign, tourism, energy, digitalization. After declaring zero corruption in power as its main goal, the PP now wants the anti-corruption committee in parliament.

One of the controversial ones turned out to be the regional policy committee, as not only Kiril Petkov’s people but also the BSP had appetites for it. The Reds will most likely receive the committees on defense, environment and EU affairs. However, they were also interested in those in healthcare, where Prof. Georgi Mihailov may be the head, and in education – led by Irena Atanasova. It is unclear exactly how much the BSP will receive in the end.

An option to propose the social commission to Hassan Ademov from the MRF, who is the parliamentarian with the greatest knowledge and experience in the field, was also discussed. Until the editorial closing of the issue, however, there was no decision on this case.

It is very important what personalities the chairmen of the commissions will be, said yesterday the deputy head of the National Assembly Iva Miteva from ITN. He explained that the parliament has been renewed too much, there will be too much to learn and it will be difficult. It is one thing to be naive because you are young, it is another to have no experience and knowledge, she said. The budget and legal commissions must work as a matter of urgency, Miteva added.
