The National Stadium in Tokyo: A world metropolis loses its mega event.

It was a week long egg dance. The decision has now been made: The Tokyo Summer Olympics are not taking place due to the global corona virus crisis.
–
The official IOC communiqué states: “The IOC President (Thomas Bach, d.Red.) And the Japanese Prime Minister (Shinzo Abe, d.Red.) Have agreed that the Tokyo Olympic Games must be rescheduled , but not after the summer of 2021. » The same thing happens with the Paralympics. It continues: “The games will keep the official name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.”
–
The French L’Équipe followed up on Tuesday afternoon and reports that the 2020 Olympics will definitely not take place until 2021. There is no fixed date yet. So it is also possible that the games will increase in spring 2021.

Pressure on the IOC grew
The games should have taken place in the Japanese metropolis from July 24th to August 9th. But at the latest in the first weeks of March and the cancellations of the European Football Championships and the vast majority of sporting events, championships and events, the pressure on the IOC became ever greater to also cancel the Olympics.
–
The pressure became even greater when the first athletes and Canada and Australia, two larger associations, announced their waiver of participation. Now the IOC has chosen the only option that was open: cancellation.
–
Another problem arose because many athletes were no longer able to train properly due to the curfews and closed facilities. In addition, the Olympic qualifications had not yet been completed in some sports, but could no longer be carried out.
–
Tokyo again
The uncanny thing: It hits Tokyo for the second time. The Japanese should already have held the 1940 games. But then the cancellation followed because of the Second World War. It wasn’t until 1964 that the Olympians actually gathered in Tokyo.

When will the games take place in Japan? 2021, a year later. (md)
