Tokopedia Limits Seller Features Amid TikTok Shop Integration

Platform Pushes Merchants to New Unified Sales Center

Tokopedia is restricting functionality within its original Seller Center, encouraging merchants to transition to a combined platform with TikTok Shop. The move follows Bytedance’s acquisition of a significant stake in the Indonesian e-commerce giant, sparking concerns about market competition.

Feature Restrictions and Migration Push

Aditya Grasio Nelwan, Head of Tokopedia Communication and TikTok E-Commerce, confirmed that features are being gradually removed from the Tokopedia Seller Center. Specifically, the ability to add new products has been curtailed. “At the Tokopedia Seller Center there are some features that we really derive slowly. Well, indeed on June 9 yesterday there were many features that we sent down, indeed the aim was to motivate the seller to move (to Tokopedia & Tiktok Shop Seller Center),” he stated during a recent media briefing in Jakarta.

Despite the limitations, Nelwan assured sellers that transactions can still be processed through the existing Tokopedia Seller Center. However, the company is strongly advocating for full integration with the new unified system to unlock further business potential.

According to Statista, e-commerce revenue in Indonesia is projected to reach US$51.98 billion in 2025, making it a crucial market for both Tokopedia and TikTok. (Statista, Indonesia E-commerce Revenue)

Migration Challenges and Concerns

The transition hasn’t been seamless. Nelwan noted that not all sellers have migrated to the new Seller Center, citing misconceptions about the integration process. These include beliefs that sellers must maintain shops on both platforms, create TikTok video content, or activate cash-on-delivery options. Technical difficulties are also hindering some merchants.

“In terms of percentage, I cannot mention it, but certainly the majority have migrated,” Nelwan added.

Recent Developments and Regulatory Scrutiny

This integration is a key component of the transition following Bytedance’s takeover of Tokopedia from Goto. Sellers were given a deadline of June 9, 2025, to move to the new sales center. Tokopedia is also addressing allegations of monopolistic practices raised by the KPPU (Indonesia’s Business Competition Supervisory Commission) following the acquisition.
