HARLEM, KOMPAS.com – A three-year-old toddler died after falling from the 29th floor of an apartment in Harlem, New York, United States of AmericaSaturday (2/7/2022).
According to the NYPD (New York Police Department), the toddler fell into a scaffolding on the fifth floor of the Taino Towers residential complex at around 11.10 am local time.
Neighbors heard sounds like “bum” and “dug” as the toddler fell.
“Sounds like something really heavy. It sounds like construction,” said neighbor Tangerine Castro, 33, who lives on the 23rd floor New York Post on Saturday (2/7/2022).
“We immediately found out and everyone came out of the building,” he continued. “Everyone above who could look down saw the boy in the yellow shirt. She lay on scaffolding.”
The child’s mother, who was outside, screamed, witnesses said.
“He was screaming, ‘My baby, my baby, he’s up there’,” said another neighbor, Alexander Townsend, 25.
Meanwhile, the toddler’s father ran downstairs crying and trying to climb up scaffolding to take his son but could not, added Townsend.
The poor toddler was rushed to Harlem Hospital but his life could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 11.31 a.m., the NYPD said.
Initial reports were that the child’s fall was accidental, police said.

“When you look outside the terrace, you can see the baby’s body. He’s wearing a diaper and a T-shirt,” Cordero said.
“Then there was a scream. I think the mother screamed and I looked and the baby was there” scaffolding.”
Cordero added that he once helped the toddler’s mother and even bought him diapers and milk. He also admitted that there was domestic violence (KDRT) in the family.
There has been no further comment from the NYPD and the investigation is currently ongoing.
Neighbor Tangerine Castro on the 23rd floor said the balcony of the apartment was about 30 years old and was in the process of being replaced. The mosquito net on the balcony is also quite old.
“We don’t have air conditioning now. Everyone’s hanging out on the balcony now, but I can’t say if that (the toddler fell) or something else,” Castro said.
