Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, was attacked on Friday morning. Today capital authorities have revealed the level of armed force that the attackers were carrying.
Mexico City, June 27 (SinEmbargo) .– The commandos that attacked Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Citizen Security of Mexico City, brought carrying an arsenal through the streets of the capital, which included grenade launcher, long guns, short guns, grenades, Barrett rifles, Molotov bombs, chargers and cartridges.
Ulises Lara López, spokesman for the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, assured this afternoon that the investigations into the attack “are already well advanced.” He confirmed that 19 people were arrested and 13 vehicles and weapons of different calibres were seized, such as a grenade launcher, 34 long weapons, 8 short weapons, 7 fragmentation grenades, 5 Barrett rifles, 39 vests, 51 Molotov bombs, 2 thousand 805 cartridges and 414 hammered castles.
The official explained that with the security cameras it was possible to observe how several subjects fled on foot from the place of the attack in Lomas de Chapultepec, Mayor Miguel Hidalgo. Thus, they were followed up and captured. First 12 fell. Then two more subjects were detained when they reached the municipality of Atlacomulco, State of Mexico. Later, during field work in the Tláhuac Mayor’s Office, four more people were captured, including José Armando Briseño de los Santos, alias “El Vaca”, identified as the mastermind behind the attack on Omar García Harfuch.
“As you are aware, derived from the analysis of the video recordings of the C5 in Mexico City, it was possible to capture the moment in which the attack was carried out by several armed people who were on board a van, color white, labeled company, which closed the way to the convoy that was transferring to the Secretary of Citizen Security; after the attack, some people fled aboard a Suburban-type van, in the opposite direction to the event, ”said Ulises Lara López.
“Likewise, from the analysis to the private cameras, one of the possible participants was observed to flee the scene. Here it stands out that at the moment of running he stripped part of his clothes, in order not to be identified. Similarly, it was possible to locate several subjects who were observed fleeing the scene, through cameras. To two of them it was also possible to observe how they flee and take off the clothes they were wearing, ”he added.
From the foregoing, elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security detained 12 people, from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Guerrero, Nayarit, Chihuahua, Michoacán and one of Colombian nationality, who, until now, are at the disposal of the General Coordination of High Impact Crime Investigation.

“After the attack, the VW Jetta vehicle, directed towards the municipality of Atlacomulco, State of Mexico, was observed by camera tracking of the C4 of the State of Mexico, which was pursued by elements of the Security Secretariat of that entity, until give them scope ”, explained Lara López in a press conference.
“Likewise, we report that the intelligence, cabinet and field work carried out by the Investigative Police of the Attorney General’s Office and elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security have allowed various procedures to be carried out in subsequent hours. It follows the execution of two searches in the Estrella and Santa Isabel Tola neighborhoods, both from the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office, as well as the arrest, in the Santa Catarina neighborhood, of Tláhuac mayor’s office, of five people, including one of the main members of the group that attempted against the Secretary, “he added.
As a result of these actions, 555 small plastic bags with white substance, with characteristics typical of cocaine, were insured; three weapons, two of them long; three chargers and 27 cartridges, in addition to evidence that was widely found to strengthen the investigation.
“On the other hand, it is known that on the night of June 25, at approximately 10 pm, the possible aggressors were transferred to different places in order to collect the weapons that they would use and that today is part of the evidence collected in the place of the facts, ”said Ulises Lara López, spokesman for the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City.
The capital’s Secretary of Security was the victim of a tying up yesterday morning, around 6:30 am, the attack caused the death of two bodyguards and a woman.
For these facts, yesterday the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Alfonso Durazo, said that both the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office and the FGR will carry out the investigations and do not rule out as hypotheses the relationship that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel could have in crime, this after that García Harfuch pointed out from his Twitter account to the criminal organization as responsible.
Durazo Montaño said that this is one of the lines of investigation followed by both local and federal authorities. He stated that they will not rule out “that a network of alliances with criminal organizations of different types had a presence in Mexico City.”
