To fight against the shortage of caregivers, a town hall sets up … an airlift

The elected officials are obliged to redouble their ingenuity to fight against the medical deserts on their territories. Thus, an airlift was set up between Dijon and Nevers to transport doctors. The first flight will depart from Dijon-Bourgogne airport this Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 8:15 a.m., reports France Blue. This will allow caregivers to reach Nevers in about thirty minutes.

“Until then, I went there by train, and some colleagues by car. It’s 2h20 by train. The airlift will allow you to go there more quickly. It will also make it possible not to leave the night before like now, to start quite early in Nevers”, explains Inna Dygai-Cochet, one of the doctors who will take the airlift. She’s been going back and forth for two years. This aerial solution, far from being the most ecological, will make life easier for doctors: “The idea doesn’t seem bad to me, because we don’t have much choice. It may not be not ideal, but I don’t see too many solutions that would be much better right now.”

This solution is all the more important since from June 2023, it will no longer be possible to travel to Nevers from Dijon by train, the rails will then be under construction, for seven months. In addition, it could encourage other doctors to take the airlift. It wouldn’t be luxury. “Finally, practically all specialties are concerned. In nuclear medicine for example, there is only one permanent doctor in Nevers, it is not enough. Especially since it is still a large population pool of 200,000 inhabitants”, laments Inna Dygai-Cochet.

However, the solution will not be enough to remedy the lack of medical personnel in the territory: “This airlift, I think it’s a small drop that could perhaps make things happen a little bit. It’s about less to talk about this problem which we do not talk about enough and where we forget the populations to their sad fate.
