The head of the Federation of Employers Syndicates and the head of the Syndicate of Meat Sellers in North Lebanon, Ahmed Faisal, announced, in a statement, that “all owners of malls,” hypermarkets, and all stores that sell fresh, frozen, and chilled meat, must identify each item (fresh, chilled, or frozen), and specify the country of origin. For each type of meat, especially meat imported from abroad, taking into account the laws advocated and implemented by the Syndicate of Meat Sellers in North Lebanon, in terms of the need to strictly adhere to the guidelines in order to ensure the health of the consumer and adherence to health standards.

Faisal confirmed that “all of the aforementioned institutions must place a board stating the source of the meat and the country of origin, above the shelves of the offered meat,” stressing the “total and immediate abstinence from selling previously processed meat, minced meat, kofta meat, shokf meat, sausage meat, burgers, etc. Its youth, and those concerned must abide by that, provided that the processing and packaging process takes place within the sight of the buyer, who witnesses the method of grinding and chopping meat immediately after selection and request, and not preparing it previously.

He added, “Citizens who want to buy meat, especially from butcheries that they trust, should investigate the nature of the meat, noting that the price of frozen meat is more than 60 percent cheaper than fresh meat, and the price of chilled meat is less than 30 percent less than fresh meat.”
