TMC MP Mahua Moitra Faces FIRs Over Remarks on Amit Shah, alleged Communal Comments
Raipur, Chhattisgarh – Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra is facing legal action after an FIR was registered against her in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday for allegedly making “objectionable” remarks against union Home Minister Amit Shah. The case stems from comments Moitra reportedly made during a media interaction on Thursday, accusing Shah of neglecting his responsibilities regarding border security.
The FIR, filed by Raipur resident gopal Samanto, accuses Moitra of offenses under Indian Penal Code sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups) and 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration). Samanto alleges Moitra’s statements have instilled fear among Bangladeshi refugees residing in Raipur’s Mana Camp area since 1971 and could incite communal tensions.
This action follows separate police complaints filed against Moitra by BJP leaders in West Bengal, specifically in Krishnanagar and Kolkata. These complaints also reference remarks Moitra made questioning the voting patterns of beneficiaries of West Bengal state schemes, notably within scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Namasudra communities.
According to reports,Moitra was purportedly heard saying that voters who benefit from schemes like Laxmi Bhandar and Swasthya Sathi still vote for the BJP during elections, questioning their allegiance. She also reportedly referred to ‘Tulsi Malas’ as “wooden malas,” prompting accusations from BJP state legal co-incharge Tarunjyoti Tiwari that the TMC is “against Hindus.” Tiwari further contested Moitra’s claim that state government doles were funded by the TMC, stating they are derived from taxpayers’ money.
