Nuevo Laredo Prepares for Independence Day Festivity
Nuevo Laredo is gearing up for its 215th anniversary celebration of the beginning of mexican Independence. Municipal President Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal is organizing a large event featuring a “first level artistic picture” to enhance the conventional “Cry of Independence” ceremony.
The ceremony will be held on Monday, September 15th, beginning at 8:00 PM in front of the Federal Palace. attendees can expect music,folklore,snacks,adn a family-kind atmosphere. Canturosas Villarreal has extended an open invitation to all citizens to participate in this free event,describing it as “the most important country party of the year,” promising a vibrant display of lights,colors,and performances by two prominent Mexican musicians.Meanwhile, in other regional news, the head of the Federal Power of Mexico stated, “We are doing well and we are going to go better,” during a recent report. In Matamoros, the 2025-2026 school year commenced at “Jaime Torres Bodet” high school with the symbolic delivery of 535,930 free textbooks and 79,429 packages of school supplies for basic education students. Municipal President José Granados reaffirmed his commitment to improving educational infrastructure, including roof installations, toilet rehabilitation, and provision of necessary materials.
Further south in Reynosa,the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) opened a new Bachelor of Nursing program,responding to development needs in the border region. Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado oversaw the launch of the program, which currently has 75 students enrolled for the autumn 2025 semester, operating out of the Reynosa-Aztlán multidisciplinary academic unit. Campus Director María Cristina Hernández Jiménez highlighted the program’s opening as a important achievement by rector Anaya Alvarado, expanding access to professional studies for local youth. The UAM Reynosa-Aztlán campus now serves over 2,100 students.
the system for the integral development of the family (DIF) in Nuevo Laredo has begun the school year in community child care centers (CAIC), providing quality educational care for children aged 3-6 in a safe and accessible surroundings. Places remain available for 3 and 4-year-olds entering preschool, and low-cost nursery services are also offered to support working parents.
