President Trump Nominates Aaron Peterson for Federal Judgeship in Alaska
ANCHORAGE, AK – November 13, 2025 – President Trump today announced the nomination of Aaron Peterson, a Senior Assistant Attorney General with the Alaska Department of Law, to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court bench.
Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox praised the nomination, stating, “Aaron is an exceptional choice. His vast knowledge of both civil and criminal law makes him uniquely suited for this position. His recent work on high-stakes civil litigation concerning Alaska’s sovereign interests showcases his dedication and integrity. As President Trump has said, Aaron has fought to protect Alaska’s greatest assets and the Alaskan people-and I’m confident he will strongly uphold our Constitution and make us proud.”
Peterson began his career with the Alaska department of Law in 2012 as a prosecutor in the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office, handling cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. In 2015, he transitioned to the Office of Special Prosecutions, serving as the Statewide Fish and Wildlife Crimes Prosecutor. Since 2019, Peterson has worked in the civil Division’s Natural Resources Section, focusing on complex litigation defending Alaska’s interests under federal and state law. his cases have involved the Endangered Species Act, National environmental Policy Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, Marine Mammal protection Act, and alaska National interest Lands Conservation Act, often with notable implications for Alaska’s economy and resource development.
In a related proclamation, President Trump also nominated Nick Ganjei, former First Assistant U.S. Attorney under Attorney General Cox during the first Trump Administration, to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. cox remarked, “Nick was my indispensable right hand…and I’m also very proud to see him nominated. He’ll serve Texas and the country well on the federal bench.”
