‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Episode Lengths Confirmed: Premiere to Clock in at 68 Minutes
The highly anticipated final season of ”stranger Things” will not feature episodes consistently exceeding 90 minutes, contrary to recent reports. Co-creator Ross Duffer revealed the runtimes for the frist four episodes of Season 5 via Instagram on Monday, debunking viral claims and a recent report from Puck News suggesting extended episode lengths.
The premiere episode, titled “The Crawl,” will run for 1 hour and 8 minutes (68 minutes). Subsequent episodes include an unnamed episode at 54 minutes, “The Turnbow Trap” at 1 hour and 6 minutes (66 minutes), and “Sorcerer” at 1 hour and 23 minutes (83 minutes). This announcement clarifies expectations for the season’s pacing, following Season 4’s trend of considerably longer episodes – a departure from the show’s earlier, roughly hour-long format.
Netflix plans a staggered release for Season 5. The first four episodes will debut on November 26, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday, with “Sorcerer” serving as a mid-season finale. The next three episodes will premiere on Christmas, culminating in the final episode, “The Rightside Up,” on New Year’s Eve.
The episodes were directed by the Duffer Brothers, alongside executive producer Shawn Levy and filmmaker Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption”). The entire core cast – including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke – will return for the concluding chapter of the series.
